YMPO SOCIAL PINPOINT PUBLIC COMMENT

The YMPO has begun the development 2018-2041 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) addresses the challenges and guides the development of a multimodal transportation system through the year 2041. The Regional Transportation Plan is a guide to maintain and enhance the regional transportation system for urbanized Yuma County.

The RTP is a coordinated system of capital intensive roadway projects, transit improvements, and pedestrian/bicycle facilities needed over the next 23 years. The plan attempts to minimize impacts to society and environment while providing for enough capacity and transportation choices to ensure the region’s economy continues to grow.

YMPO ROLLS OUT NEW INTERACTIVE ONLINE TOOL ENABLING PUBLIC TO VIEW AND COMMENT ON MAP OF PROPOSED TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS

Yuma, Ariz. – The YMPO is updating the Regional Transportation Plan. The YMPO Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) 2018-2041 is a long-term blueprint of a region’s transportation system. It contains a list of transportation improvements that will be implemented over the next two decades. RTPs are updated every four years.

The YMPO is launching a new online community engagement tool to help the public review the draft list of proposed projects and provide their comments. The tool allows users to view an interactive map that identifies the proposed transportation improvements, and similar to other online social platforms, “Like, Dislike or Comment” on them. Visitors to the site are directed to a landing page that provides simple instructions on how to use the site and users can then click on various icons representing individual projects and learn about the proposed improvement including location and timing.

To participate, the public should visit the interactive website at: gg.mysocialpinpoint.com/ympo between Sept. 16 and Oct. 6, 2016.

In addition to using the software to access the map and view proposed transportation improvements, users can also propose other improvements by dragging “pins” to locations, commenting, and can even attach pictures.

“We want to hear from anyone who moves about the YMPO area. We want to tap into the experiences people have when they go to work, drop their children off at school, use sidewalks and paths or cross our intersections,” said Charles Gutierrez of YMPO.

Input gathered from the gg.mysocialpinpoint.com/ympo website will influence the final list of projects that will be included in the YMPO Regional Transportation Plan 2018-2041, which is being prepared for the entire YMPO planning area. Jurisdictions that make up the YMPO are the City of Yuma; Yuma County; the Cocopah Indian Tribe; the Town of Wellton; the cities of Somerton and San Luis; Winterhaven, California; the Quechan Indian Tribe; and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) operating as “Local governments working together”.

For questions about the transportation projects, contact Charles Gutierrez at (928) 783-8911 or cgutierrez@ympo.org.
