Drivers should prepare for hazardous conditions!!!

As part of the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (YMPO) Public Participation and Notification, it is prudent with the advent of the colder Winter weather that is upon all of the Contiguous Continental United States the message of Winter Weather is Think Safe, Be Safe, and Drive Safe in the Winter Weather.  Here are our links to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and California Department of Transportation (CALTANS).

Things to Keep in Mind while Traveling this Winter

  • Make sure you brakes, windshield wipers, defroster, heater, and exhaust system are in working order
  • Check your antifreeze
  • You may need to add De-ice solution to the wiper reservoir in the chance you need to de-ice your windshield while driving
  • Check your tires-Carry chains if necessary
  • Carry ice scraper, small brooms, small shovel (E-tool), possible burlap bags in case you get stuck
  • The necessities
    • Water
    • Food
    • Blankets
    • Extra clothing
  • Maps or GPS
  • Charged Cellular Phone or Satellite Phone in remote areas
  • An extra key in pocket in case you lock yourself out while putting Chains on your tires
  • Allow enough Time to drive
  • Keep a full tank of fuel
  • SLOW DOWN
  • Pay Attention
  • DO NOT TRAVEL TO CLOSE TO UTILITY VEHICLES (Snow Plows or Emergency Vehicles
