San Luis Transit Circulator Study

By | March 5th, 2025 | 0 Comments

The Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization (YMPO) is conducting a circulator route study in San Luis, AZ to maximize service to the most transit riders while respecting our Title VI groups and include the border transit needs.

San Luis is the second busiest border crossing point in Arizona and has two Ports of Entry (POE): San Luis 1 being the port for vehicle and pedestrians and the San Luis II port for the commercial vehicle.  With over 31,000 residents, San Luis is the gateway between Sonora/Sinaloa with over 500,000 people within one-hour drive.

San Luis’ proximity to the border necessitates multimodal infrastructure to improve border functions and the community’s quality of life. Recently, ADOT reconfigured roadway networks to improve traffic congestion on the Main Arterials of the downtown area.  This infrastructure improvement enhanced the road network; however, the need for a Transit Circulator is desired to transport residents around the inner/outer city while trying to help enhance residents’ quality of life.  Currently, transit service is provided in the San Luis area on two routes offered by the Yuma County Area Transit (YCAT) that is routed between the City of Yuma and San Luis.  This San Luis Circulator Study will take into consideration local government, business, and the International Port of Entry at Mexico, which will allow the residents to engage in the quality of life that the City of San Luis is striving for their residents.
